Sending peace thoughts
This painting was inspired by a poem of the same name written by my late Grandfather. He was born in 1908 and saw so many changes in his life time and loved to write poetry about his experiences. This poem is about how he was feeling lonely as though no-one cared but yet when he reaches out and feels the love from others he feels 'great gladness' as though the 'loving thoughts are heaven sent'.
My grandfather typed most of his poems on a typewriter. I have copied his original typed poem and collaged pieces into my painting. They include his handwritten words 'sending peace thoughts'. which was real joy to find. I wanted his poetry to be fully immersed which is why i've used his poem as the surface and backdrop to the painting which i've then painted into and collaged onto. The pops of coloured spots are my finger prints which represent the love of others around us. This seemed the perfect way to combine the creative work of my grandfather with mine.
I love colour, texture and meaning and for me this painting has all these things. I hope you'd love to have it hanging on your wall, where you can stare quietly at it, contemplate it and appreciate it's sentimentality.
Sending peace thoughts comes mounted but not framed, however it will fit perfectly into an Ikea Ribba frame.
